Hands pressed into a mat during a slow, held position

Renae
teaches
nearly every
class.

Not a rotating faculty and not a name on the door. The person who owns the school is the person watching your hips on a Tuesday afternoon.

Renae Molden did not come up through yoga. She has a degree from UT Austin, spent years as a director of technology at a school here, and then years in enterprise technology at Dell. She was in her forties and carrying nerve pain she had lived with for about three decades, having worked through most of the modalities a person works through by then.

She found Kaiut Yoga on a trip to Telluride in 2018 and committed to bringing the school to Austin before her own pain had finished resolving. That order matters, and she is straightforward about it. She bet on the method while she was still a student of it rather than after it had already made her a success story. The studio opened in November 2019.

The day her neck pain went is the day she says she understood she had changed the direction of her own aging, and that this had to be shared rather than kept.

How she teaches

She has been a trained educator for most of her working life, and it shows in the way a class is run. She explains what a position is for. She expects you to be curious about your own sensations rather than to copy hers. She treats what your body reports as information, not as a problem to be corrected.

Her own description is that she is a guide, and that the student is the hero of their own journey. In a room where most people arrive with a history, that is not a slogan. It is the only workable arrangement.

“It takes a willingness to question what you’ve come to believe about your body.”

The school, formally

Kaiut Yoga Austin is the licensed Kaiut school for Austin. Renae studies inside the ongoing education the Kaiut group runs for all of its schools, and she has hosted Francisco Kaiut’s son Ravi in Austin for practice intensives. The method that reaches this room is the method as it is currently taught, not a memory of a training from years ago.
